Course Overview
The Future of Healthcare Decal will give students a preview of healthcare in the future. First, we will take a brief look at the events that have led us up to the current state of the healthcare system. Then we will move on to the innovation that has been occurring in healthcare technology to address the current healthcare issues and crisis of increasing healthcare costs.
This course will primarily be a speaker series, with speakers discussing topics such as 3D printing, medical devices, blockchain, telemedicine, physician burnout, etc. Following these talks, opportunities for questions and networking will be available for interested students.
Student Objectives
Students should walk away from this course with a robust understanding of the current healthcare landscape, and should have gained an introduction to various technologies that are disrupting the current industry. We hope this course encourages students to work in the healthcare industry, and contribute to solving the current crises of the US healthcare system.

Course Policies
Attendance and Participation

Attendance is mandatory. It is imperative for students to attend every class session for their own enrichment and to improve the quality of discussions out of respect for our guest speakers.

Students are expected to actively engage in discussions and workshops.
Assignments and Readings

Students are expected to complete the assigned readings each week prior to the start of class.

Readings will be provided on a weekly basis and will consist of approximately 2 hours of reading per week. This material will include articles, presentation slides, and videos on the topic that the upcoming speaker will be addressing as well as readings that the speakers will be providing.

Students are expected to conduct their own external research on course topics to develop a better understanding of the current healthcare technology landscape.

Students will be required to submit 3 detailed questions they would like to ask the upcoming speaker, based on the weekly readings and their own external research. This assignment will be due every week prior to the start of class.

Students will be expected to present a final project at the end of the course, consisting of a business proposal to improve some aspect of the healthcare system using the information they learned from the class. They will also turn in a draft/proposal of the final project midway through the semester.

The final project will require students to do a minimum of 9 hours of reading/research over the last half of the semester.

Attendance: 1 point given for each class (13 total points)

Weekly question submission: 1 point given for each completed homework submitted (13 total points)

Midterm Project Proposal: 4 point given for completing a draft of the final project

Final Project Presentation: 5 points given for an excellent, completed reflection

24.5/35 points, or C-, is the passing grade for the class. Every weekly assignment must be completed to receive credit. Email one of the facilitators one week in advance if you know you will be missing class the next week.
